Suspension for Intramammary Administration

COMPOSITION :

1 Syringe tube (10g) contains active substance (mg):

Cephalexin monohydrate – 350;

Gentamicin sulfate – 100.

Excipients: alcohol – up to 10 g.

PHARMACOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Composition:
    • Cephalexin Monohydrate and Gentamicin Sulfate.
  • Action:
    • Cephalexin: A cephalosporin antibiotic effective against gram-positive bacteria.
    • Gentamicin: An aminoglycoside antibiotic effective against gram-negative bacteria.
    • Together, they target a broad range of bacteria, including:
      • Gram-positive: Streptococcus spp., Staphylococcus spp.
      • Gram-negative: E. coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae

APPLICATION:

  • Indication:
    • Treatment of acute, subacute, clinical, subclinical, chronic, and non-specific forms of infectious mastitis in cattle (cows), sheep, and goats.
    • Effective during lactation for infections caused by microorganisms susceptible to the drug’s components.

DOSAGE:

  • Cows:
    • Inject the contents of one syringe tube (10 g) into the affected udder quarter.
    • Ensure the udder is pre-washed, disinfected, and milked before injection.
    • After injection, gently massage the udder from top to bottom for even distribution.
    • Reapply every 12-24 hours.
  • Sheep and Goats:
    • Inject half of one syringe tube into the affected udder quarter.
    • Follow the same procedure as for cows.
    • Treatment course is 3-5 days.
  • Preparation:
    • Heat the syringe tube to 35-38°C in a water bath and shake vigorously to ensure a homogeneous mass before injection.

CONTRAINDICATIONS:

  • Hypersensitivity: Do not use in animals with known hypersensitivity to cephalexin or gentamicin.

PRECAUTIONS:

  • Side Effects:
    • Possible redness at the injection site.
    • Risk of kidney failure in cases of pre-existing kidney disease or prolonged use.
  • Milk Use:
    • Milk from treated animals can be used for human consumption only after 4 days from the last application.
    • Milk before this period should be discarded or fed to unproductive animals based on veterinary advice.

STORAGE:

  • Conditions: Store in a dry, dark place at temperatures from 5°C to 25°C.
  • Separation: Keep separate from food, beverages, and animal feed.
