DESCRIPTION :
Diphenhydramine is an antihistamine medication primarily employed in treating allergic reactions, acute inflammation, insect bites or stings, and itching in animals. While it’s frequently administered to dogs and cats, its effectiveness extends to larger animals such as cattle, sheep, horses, and camels. Furthermore, it proves useful in managing motion sickness, travel anxiety, and coughing in animals.
DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION :
For intramuscular administration:
– Horses, camels, and cattle: 4-20 ml
– Calves, goats, and sheep: 1.5-2.5 ml
SIDE EFFECTS :
Diphenhydramine is contraindicated in animals with allergies to antihistamines, glaucoma, prostate disease, urinary obstruction, or high blood pressure. Potential side effects include drowsiness, dry mouth, and urinary retention, with rare occurrences of vomiting, diarrhea, and decreased appetite. Pregnant or nursing animals should not receive this medication. It’s crucial to inform your veterinarian about any other medications the animal is taking to avoid potential interactions or complications.
WITHDRAWAL TIMES :
Milk: 7 days.
Meat: 28 days.
