PHARMACOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS:

This cream combines multiple active ingredients to provide anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, antibacterial, and antifungal effects:

  • Betamethasone Dipropionate: A synthetic fluorinated corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory, glucocorticoid, antiallergic, and antipruritic properties. It narrows blood vessels, alleviates itching, reduces the release of inflammatory mediators (eosinophils, mast cells, interleukins 1 and 2, γ-interferon), inhibits hyaluronidase activity, and decreases vessel wall permeability.
  • Clotrimazole: An imidazole antifungal that disrupts the phospholipid membrane of fungi, leading to cytoplasmic vacuolization and reduced ribosome numbers. Effective against fungi such as Trichophyton rubrumTrichophyton mentagrophytesEpidermophyton floccosumMicrosporum canisCandida albicans, and Malassezia furfur.
  • Gentamicin: A broad-spectrum aminoglycoside antibiotic with bactericidal action against Gram-negative bacteria (e.g., Pseudomonas aeruginosaEscherichia coli) and Gram-positive bacteria (e.g., Staphylococcus aureusStreptococcus spp.).

Note: While transdermal absorption of active ingredients is minimal with normal use, occlusive bandages can enhance absorption and increase the risk of systemic side effects.

APPLICATION:

  • Indications: Treatment of dermatitis in dogs and cats characterized by severe allergic and inflammatory reactions, pruritus, hyperemia, edema, infiltration, and secondary bacterial infections. Also used for fungal skin diseases caused by Microsporum canisTrichophyton rubrumTrichophyton mentagrophytes, as well as candidiasis and Malassezia infections.

DOSAGE:

  • Application: For external use only. Apply to affected areas and surrounding skin with a thin layer twice daily (morning and evening). Gently rub the cream into the skin.
  • Preparation: Trim hair from the affected area before application.
  • Duration: Continue until clinical improvement is observed, which may include resolution of inflammation, negative bacterial/mycological test results, cessation of itching, and skin cleansing. Treatment usually lasts 2-4 weeks. A break of at least 20 days is recommended before any repeated courses.

CONTRAINDICATIONS:

  • Hypersensitivity to any of the components of the cream.

SIDE EFFECTS:

  • Prolonged or excessive use on large skin areas may lead to systemic effects typical of glucocorticosteroids, such as suppression of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal system, secondary adrenal insufficiency, hypercorticism symptoms (e.g., weight gain, edema, hypertension, glycosuria, hypokalemia), and Cushing’s syndrome.
