Calcium gluconate                450 mg

Calcium lactobionate              20 mg

Calcium acetate                       37 mg

Magnesium hypophosphite       30 mg

APPLICATION:

Treating acute hypocalcemia complicated by magnesium deficiency in cattle, horses, sheep, and goats involves several steps:

  1. Diagnosis: Confirm the presence of acute hypocalcemia and assess whether it’s complicated by magnesium deficiency through clinical examination and diagnostic tests.
  2. Calcium and Magnesium Supplementation: Administer intravenous or oral calcium and magnesium supplements to address the deficiencies. Calcium gluconate or calcium borogluconate can be given intravenously to rapidly increase calcium levels. Magnesium sulfate can be administered intravenously or orally to correct magnesium levels.
  3. Monitoring: Continuously monitor calcium and magnesium levels through blood tests to ensure they reach and remain within the normal range.
  4. Treatment of Underlying Causes: Identify and address any underlying factors contributing to the deficiencies, such as inadequate dietary intake, metabolic disorders, or environmental factors.
  5. Supportive Care: Provide supportive care as needed, including fluid therapy, electrolyte supplementation, and management of concurrent conditions.
  6. Prevention: Implement measures to prevent recurrence of hypocalcemia and magnesium deficiency, such as adjusting dietary mineral levels, ensuring adequate intake of calcium and magnesium, and managing any predisposing factors.
  7. Follow-Up: Schedule follow-up examinations and monitoring to assess the animal’s response to treatment and adjust management strategies as necessary.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:

Guidelines for administering the treatment are as follows:

  1. Route of Administration: The treatment can be administered subcutaneously, intravenously, or intramuscularly, depending on preference and convenience.
  2. Practical Dose for Horses and Cattle: Administer 80-100 ml per 200-500 kg of body weight.
  3. Practical Dose for Sheep and Goats: Administer 15-35 ml per 25-50 kg of body weight.
  4. Administration Technique: To avoid discomfort and ensure proper absorption, large volumes should be divided between multiple injection sites. Massage the injection sites gently after administration.

Following these dosage and administration guidelines will help ensure effective treatment and minimize the risk of adverse effects.
