COMPOSITION :
Contains per ml :
Sulfamethoxazole…….200 mg.
Trimethoprim …………40 mg.
DESCRIPTION:
The combined action of trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole exhibits a synergistic effect, primarily exerting bactericidal activity against a broad spectrum of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
These encompass pathogens such as E. coli, Haemophilus,
Pasteurella, Salmonella, Staphylococcus, and Streptococcus spp. Notably, each of these compounds interferes with bacterial purine synthesis through distinct mechanisms, resulting in a dual blockade strategy.
APPLICATION :
This pharmaceutical combination is indicated for the treatment of gastrointestinal, respiratory, and urinary tract infections caused by bacteria susceptible to trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole.
These bacteria include E. coli, Haemophilus, Pasteurella, Salmonella, Staphylococcus, and Streptococcus spp. This therapy is applicable for use in calves, cattle, goats, sheep, and swine.
CONTRA-INDICATIONS :
This medication is contraindicated in cases of hypersensitivity to trimethoprim and/or sulfonamides. It should not be administered to animals with severely compromised renal and/or hepatic function or to those with hematological disorders.
SIDE EFFECTS :
Anaemia, leucopenia and thrombocytopenia .
DOSAGE & ADMINISTARTION:
For intramuscular administration.
General: Twice daily 1 ml per 10 – 20 kg body weight for 3 – 5 days.
WITHDRAWAL:
- For meat: 12 days.
- For milk: 4 days.
