DESCRIPTION
Imidocarb is a diamidine compound of the carbanilide series with antiprotozoal activity.
INDICATIONS
Indicated for the treatment and prophylaxis of babesiosis in cattle; for the treatment of babesiosis and anaplasmosis in sheep; for the treatment of babesiosis in horses and dogs; and for the treatment of anaplasmosis in cattle.
ADMINISTRATION AND DOSAGE
For parenteral administration.
Cattle and calves:
Babesiosis – Treatment:
• 1.0 ml per 100 kg body weight, subcutaneously
Babesiosis – Prevention:
• 2.5 ml per 100 kg body weight, subcutaneously, one month before exposure
Anaplasmosis – Treatment:
• 2.5 ml per 100 kg body weight, subcutaneously
Elimination of carrier state:
• 4.0 ml per 100 kg body weight, subcutaneously, administered twice with a 14‑day interval
Horses:
• Babesia caballi: 2.0 ml per 100 kg body weight IM once daily for 2 consecutive days
• Babesia equi: 3.5 ml per 100 kg body weight administered 4 times at 72‑hour intervals
Sheep:
• 1.0 ml per 100 kg body weight IM
Dogs:
• 0.5 ml per 10 kg body weight SC or IM
Repeat the dose after 2 weeks if required.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Do not administer to animals exposed to cholinesterase‑inhibiting pesticides.
Do not administer intravenously.
Do not use in ewes producing milk for human consumption.
Do not use in animals with impaired renal or hepatic function.
SIDE EFFECTS
Pain at the injection site and mild cholinergic signs (salivation, vomiting, nasal discharge) may occur.
These effects may be alleviated with atropine if required.
WITHDRAWAL PERIOD
Meat: 90 days
Milk: 21 days
